The Discovery by Afalstein The Discovery by Afalstein
Suddenly, the piece of rock slid into place with a click, and the whole face of the rock flew back with frightening speed. Igor, unable to stop himself, pitched forward to fall flat on a smooth surface of stone.

Hearing a series of clicks and some odd whirring noises, Igor looked up and gasped. All crowded around him were some eight to ten little men, bushy-faced and angry. They were jabbering in some queer language, and they were all holding a strange weapon of some kind. Igor peered at it...It seemed to be a projectile weapon, steam-powered from the looks of it. Doubtless very powerful, they could likely punch a hole through a man's skull. A sharp blade was attached to the front, as some kind of bayonet.

They were also, he realized belatedly, all pointed at him.

**********

I keep saying I'm not going to update this story. I'm such a filthy liar. It's one of my favorite stories, though every time I draw one it ends up taking forever.

This comes from the first part of the story, when Igor is just starting to work with Hoover. The team is combing the mountains for a secret development facility that's supposed to be there, and they run across some odd carvings on a rock face. Igor fiddles around with them a bit, and suddenly this happens.

This is when Hoover discovers the gnomes. These particular ones have been sitting in a mountain for years, deathly afraid of "The Lord of Fire" who came and kidnapped most of their people years ago. Since then, they have barricaded this door and watched it closely

I am currently recovering from a surgery, and about the only thing I can do is post things online and read books. I've posted two chapters of a story, updated one picture, and now I'm posting this. Go figure.

You're great at color pencil pieces! I think the design of the weapons and the characters are creative altogether.
Overall the whole scene illustrates the story very well.

Thanks! I spent a long time on the weapons and stuff, just the world in general was a lot of fun to imagine. Colored pencil is the only medium I tend to use, so I'm glad to hear you think it works.

Thanks! Yeah, as Steampunk, it kinda has a 20ish feel to it. I wasn't so sure about the coloring on this one, so it's good to hear you like it!

Thanks. They're about the only medium I use, though this one (like most )was touched up digitally.
